Today's VA - Modern Veterans Care
The Milwaukee VA continues the sacred trust established over 150 years ago, providing comprehensive healthcare and services to today's veterans while preserving the historic legacy of the Soldiers Home.
Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center
Named in 1984 for long-serving Milwaukee Congressman Clement J. Zablocki, the modern 10-story hospital opened in 1966 with 1,000 beds, making it one of the largest VA hospitals in the country at the time.
Comprehensive Services
Today's VA provides a full spectrum of medical services including emergency care, surgery, mental health services, rehabilitation, and specialized programs for traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and other conditions affecting modern veterans.
Historic Campus Integration
The modern medical center operates alongside the restored historic buildings, creating a unique environment where cutting-edge medical care exists in harmony with preserved architectural heritage.
Veteran Housing Program
The restored Old Main and companion buildings now provide 101 units of supportive housing for homeless and at-risk veterans, continuing the original mission of providing shelter and care for those who served.
Community Partnerships
Working with organizations like the Center for Veterans Issues, Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee, and various service providers, the VA creates a comprehensive support network for veterans and their families.
Future Vision
With ongoing Phase 2 restoration of the Ward Memorial Theater, Chapel, and Governor's Mansion, the Milwaukee VA continues expanding community spaces and services while honoring the legacy of those who came before.
